BEWARE of FOUNDATION REPAIR SCAMS and SCAMMERS

There are many scam artist in the foundation business. Most all use piers as their number one profit center. The problem is that in many areas of the country piers are not the best answer to foundation damage but a product that is sold in lieu of proper repairs. The reason for that is because the markup gives a higher profit than actual needed repairs. These companies usually have commissioned salespeople whose livelihood depends on how much money the salesperson can extract from the property owner. Additional scams consist of phony elevations, contracts that require arbitration to limit your ability to sue and  lifetime warrantees that provide more protection for the company than for the consumer. To avoid these and other scams, become knowledgeable about foundation damage, repairs and the scams that enable the scammers.

The damage can usually be prevented, stopped and reversed without piers. The sooner you UNDERSTAND and ADDRESS the problems the EASIER and LESS EXPENSIVE it is TO CONTROL.

Foundation movement or damage is almost always a result of the soil expanding under the structure, or less often the soil contracting and/or the loss of soil around the foundation. The key to preventing, stopping and often reversing the movement/damage is controlling that soil movement. Because there is often less profit in correctly addressing the problem than there is in installing piers, PIERS are OFTEN installed and are THE REASON for a majority of FOUNDATION REPAIR failures. I'll explain how to avoid these problems and how to get the correct repairs.

The soil movement must be contained and often reversed.

Not much you can do about earthquake movement or sinkholes, but erosion,  soil expansion and contraction can usually be controlled.

Soil expansion, soil contraction and erosion can usually be dealt with. Each cause of foundation movement/damage has a specific solution that is not ideal for other types of foundation damage.

Piers are usually, at best, an extremely expensive last resort and when piers are needed it is crucial to find a contractor that uses the piers that best meet your needs.
